Coping with Anxiety and Depression – Practicing Your Faith is a Powerful Solution
Author: Joseph P. Landry

Coping with anxiety and depression at the same time can be devastating.  These conditions taken separately can put such an overwhelming weight on both your mind and body.  Having to deal with both simultaneously multiplies the damage two-fold.  I am an individual who dealt with both at the same time, fifteen years ago.  Through a strong support system of family and friends, self-belief, and learning proper behavioral techniques, I was able to overcome these conditions.

I would like to address the area of self-belief and more specifically leaning on your faith to help you in coping with anxiety and depression.  It is not my intent to mandate a certain type of religious practice on you.  I am positive that your specific faith honors your God.  If you are true with your God believing that He would always have your best interests as one of His Children, then understand that He has the power to help you overcome anything.

Too often nowadays people afflicted with difficult mental disorders believe that there is no way out.  Or, people believe that they will only be able to eliminate these conditions exclusively through the use of prescription medication. Popping different pills several times daily, I can tell you with absolute certainty, are not the permanent solution to your mental conditions.  You should also understand that almost all types of medications come with side effects; the most dangerous case being addiction.  If you deal with an ethical medical specialist who treats these conditions, (psychiatrist or psychologist) I would assume that he/she will fully explain this fact to you.

Your faith in your God is a crucial factor in helping you eventually eliminate the havoc these mental disorders and conditions cause in your system.  I believe that your God would provide you with a clear blueprint regarding treatment.  Your God would want you to confront these conditions head on.  Consider these disorders as mountains that are in your path towards recovery.  Mountains can be made into molehills and your God would tell you that anything is possible if you have the willingness and the faith.

Your God would tell you that as an individual it is your body.  The level of stress and depression that you feel are only temporary residents.  With faith and conviction understand that you are the owner of your body and you have the final say regarding your physical and mental state.  These disorders cannot be the permanent engines that move and control your being. You have the power to be in control.  Speak directly to them, informing them that they are nothing but molehills that can easily be scaled and overcome.  Have faith in your God in understanding that He indeed has provided the power, fortitude and knowledge within you so that you will overcome any obstacle.

Set your mind positively and with vigorous determination in coping with anxiety and depression.   Through your faith in your God the power has been put into you.  You can draw the absolute line in the sand.  A strong inner will and belief will help you move that mountain.

About the Author

Fifteen years ago, I went through a very traumatic experience in my life. Because of that I eventually was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder through a medical professional in the field of psychiatry. I had many panic attacks that I often found to be overwhelming. At times, I feel as if I was not in control of the thoughts coming from my mind. Through behavior modification exercises provided by a trained medical professional, and through loving support of friends and family members, I overcame this disorder. I wish to offer support and guidance to those individuals who are going through the same ordeal as I did.
